Multi-award-winning environmental champion Venus Company announces the completion of its ambitious Phase 1 renovation project at its beach café in Broadsands, has been a major success and well-received by customers, both existing and new. Providing tasty wholesome food delivered with an ethical philosophy and sustainability at the heart of everything Venus does, it’s their mission to be the greenest café operator.
Michael Smith (MD), The Venus Company says: “We are delighted with how well the sustainable construction process was undertaken and wanted to ensure it was beach ready to make the most of the summer season. Our customers are now spoilt for choice as to where to sit to enjoy the Venus eating experience, whether it’s our ever-popular cosy café, with its new entrance triple-glazed external doors and triple layers of insulation in the walls, or our remodelled expansive outdoor area, where they can unwind on our fabulous decking which seats c.100 overlooking the gorgeous sea views.”
The construction at Broadsands followed strict environmental control using Hoover bag saws and protecting the local flora and fauna. The ambitious make-over included Millboard decking made with recycled plastic substructure, and the boards crafted from recycled minerals using no wood and minimal raw materials, fabricated using renewable energy. Natural wood used on the cladding is English timber and wherever possible, materials have been recycled and re-used. Modern construction marries up to Venus’ ethos and values to help protect our planet for future generations including no single-use plastic packaging and plastic-free home compostable cling film, rubbish bags, cups, lids as well as home compostable cutlery and palm plates.
The stunning design draws on a natural beach theme, extensively using timber, planting, and careful use of glass to break up the existing monolithic design, allowing the building to blend in effortlessly with the beautiful landscape. The build consciously used materials known for their low impact and long-lasting nature, such as home-grown larch. Going forward Venus will also be installing bat and bird boxes to add to the decking hedgehog house as part of their ongoing biodiversity conservation ethos, to help preserve the wealth of habitats and ecosystems in Devon and beyond.
Located in the English Riviera on the seafront, Broadsands is at the heart of the SW Coast path, between Paignton & Brixham. The long gently shelving sandy beach with calm and crystal-clear water is perfect for family days out and year-round water sports. The Venus Café at Broadsands offers all-day, award-winning al-fresco dining where they serve the best, locally-sourced ingredients to create mouth-watering handmade recipes prepared in their own kitchens and covering all dietary requirements.
Mr. Smith concludes: “Our café is beautifully designed with a Mediterranean beach-style feel, a great place to soak up the rays and unwind as you gaze at spectacular views of the Bay. We really enjoy serving our customers amazing food all dished up in a lovely location with a warm welcome from our friendly team.”
