State-of-the-art pitch almost ready to go at Cliff Hill Training Ground

World famous singer songwriter, Joss Stone recently wowed residents and staff from Southern Heathcare by treating them to an impromptu concert at their care home at Sefton Hall, Dawlish, playing songs that brought happy memories flooding back to many of the residents.

Long-established independent nursing care provider, Southern Healthcare owns four care homes across Devon. The homes based in Exeter, Dawlish, Seaton and Plymouth, specialise in complex nursing, dementia and residential care.

Joss Stone spent her teenage years in Ashill, a small village near Cullompton and was a pupil at Uffculme School. She is currently in the middle of her ambitious Total World Tour – aiming to play a concert in every country of the planet, so it was even more remarkable that Joss was able to find the time to get back to Devon and visit Sefton Hall during the recent festive period.

It is estimated that 850,000 people in the UK have a form of dementia and approximately one third of people with a dementia live in care homes. Speaking about Sefton Hall, Joss Stone comments: “I was very impressed with the thought that has gone into providing residents with such a happy and stimulating environment. My mission is to explore the universial language of music and this can clearly be seen at Sefton Hall, where residents reacted to our music in such a positive way “

Southern Healthcare has been actively participating in a growing global network with a strong philosophy of addressing key issues in care homes such as boredom; loneliness and helplessness in later life, and developing a kind, caring and loving ‘home from home’. Southern Healthcare look to create a vibrant habitat, with meaningful activities such as music sessions, various therapies, visits from schools, and a variety of cooking and creative workshops making each day special for residents.

Gabriela Ogreanu, Manager at Sefton Hall, Southern Healthcare said: “The company strives to deliver confidence in the support it provides, and specialist nursing expertise to address a wide range of care needs. We are absolutely committed to building trusting, caring and valued relationships with residents, family members and staff alike.” She adds: “Having Joss take time out of her busy schedule meant such a lot to both our residents and their families. She was extremely popular and engaged naturally with the whole audience. Joss was really interested in our philosophy of offering a strong programme of activities to ensure residents are stimulated in a vibrant environment where music plays a vital role in their lives.”
